Abstract

Poetry is the precious cultural heritage of China, reflecting the culture of different times and conveying the emotional will of the poet. Tang Dynasty is the golden age of Chinese poetry and the peak of the development of ancient Chinese poetry. Li Bai is a very representative poet in this period. Many scholars have competed to translate Tang poems, among which Xu Yuanchong’s translation was widely praised at home and abroad. From the perspective of reception aesthetics, combined with examples from Xu Yuanchong’s “Selected Poems of Li Bai”, this paper studies the translation strategies of Tang poetry in terms of readers’ horizon of expectations and fusion of horizon, and probes into the guiding significance of reception aesthetics to literary translation, hoping to improve the translation quality of Tang poetry and promoting Chinese culture to go abroad.
