Abstract

This paper aims to compare the female consciousness exhibited by Elizabeth Bennet in Pride and Prejudice and Jane Eyre in Jane Eyre. Both Elizabeth and Jane are prominent female characters in Victorian literature, possessing profound personalities, values, and understandings of female roles. By comparing their growth experiences, marital perspectives, and social statuses, we can gain a deeper understanding of the feminist positions and attitudes held by the two authors. Elizabeth, with her unique wisdom and resilience, persists in being true to herself and pursuing true love and equality in a patriarchal society. Meanwhile, Jane Eyre, with her unwavering spirit of independence, bravely challenges traditional social norms, fighting for the dignity and rights of women. While they face different social environments, both characters demonstrate a strong sense of feminism, exerting a profound influence on future generations.
