Abstract

Group cooperative learning should be fully valued in English classroom teaching in junior high school so as to break the traditional indoctrination teaching mode of English teaching and return the dominant role of class to students. In this study, 57 students from Class 10, Grade 7 of Minhou NO. 6 Middle School were selected as the subjects to empirically investigate the application of group cooperative learning in English teaching by virtue of two questionnaire surveys. Results of the study show that group cooperative learning can significantly enhance students’ learning interest and teamwork awareness, but the effect is not obvious in learning attitude; there is no statistical difference between male and female students’ acceptance of group cooperative learning in junior high school English instruction. These findings provide beneficial exploration and supplementation for the current English classroom teaching in junior high schools.
